Can-Am dies 30 seconds after starting: idle air and throttle body
Teilen
Applies to: Can-Am Commander, Maverick and Defender EFI models
Symptoms
- Starts and idles, then dies within a minute
- Restarts but won't hold idle
- Idle hunts up and down
Why it happens
A dirty throttle body or a sticking idle bypass leaves the engine short of air once the fast-idle period ends. A cracked intake boot causes the same thing by letting in unmetered air.
How to fix it
- Check for fault codes.
- Inspect the intake boot and clamps for cracks or leaks.
- Clean the throttle body and idle air passage.
- Reset the throttle body (closed throttle position) per the manual.
Tools and parts
- Throttle body cleaner
- Intake boot if cracked
What the factory service manual covers
