Dirt bike clutch slipping on climbs
Teilen
Applies to: Cable-clutch dirt bikes (All brands, Yamaha, Kawasaki), All years
Symptoms
- Revs climb but speed doesn't
- Slips worst in high gears and on hills
- Smells burnt after hard riding
Why it happens
Too little lever free play holds the clutch partly open; worn plates, weak springs, or oil with friction modifiers also cause slip.
How to fix it
- Check lever free play against the manual and adjust.
- Use motorcycle oil rated for wet clutches.
- If it still slips, measure friction plate thickness and spring length.
- Replace plates and springs out of spec.
Tools and parts
- Calipers
- Clutch plates and springs
- Wet-clutch oil
