Honda Talon clutch temperature warning: drive in low

Applies to: Honda Talon 1000 and Pioneer 1000 (DCT)

Symptoms

  • Clutch temperature warning on the dash
  • Power cut while crawling or climbing slowly
  • Happens in mud, sand or tight trails

Why it happens

Slipping the clutches at very low speed in high range builds heat in the dual-clutch transmission. Low clutch oil makes it worse.

How to fix it

  1. Stop, idle in neutral and let the clutch cool.
  2. Use low range for slow, technical or heavy work.
  3. Check the oil level and type per the manual.
  4. If it warns in normal use, check for clutch fault codes.

Tools and parts

  • Engine oil per manual
  • Oil filter
