Kawasaki Mule losing power uphill: worn drive belt
Teilen
Applies to: Kawasaki Mule 600, 610, 2510, 2520 and other belt-drive Mules
Symptoms
- Engine revs but the Mule crawls up hills
- Jerky or slow take-off
- Rubber smell or black dust inside the belt cover
Why it happens
The CVT drive belt wears narrow and glazes, so it rides low in the pulleys and slips under load. Worn drive and driven pulley parts add to it.
How to fix it
- Remove the belt cover and inspect the belt for glazing, cracks and missing cogs.
- Measure belt width against the manual limit and replace if under.
- Clean the pulley faces of belt dust and rubber.
- Check the drive pulley weights and driven pulley spring and cam for wear.
Tools and parts
- Drive belt
- Calipers
- Brake cleaner
