Motorcycle cranks but won't start: side stand, clutch and kill switch
Teilen
Applies to: Yamaha MT-07, MT-09, YZF-R1 and most modern street bikes
Symptoms
- Cranks but won't fire, or won't crank at all
- Starts in neutral but dies when you put it in gear
- Works with the clutch pulled hard, not otherwise
Why it happens
Safety interlocks on the side stand, clutch lever and neutral switch cut ignition or block the starter. A dirty side stand switch or a worn clutch switch is a common cause.
How to fix it
- Check the kill switch is on run.
- Put the side stand fully up and pull the clutch fully in.
- Test the side stand switch and clutch switch for continuity.
- Clean and lube the side stand switch, then retest.
