Polaris General burning belts: idle, low range and clutch care
Teilen
Applies to: Polaris General 1000, General XP and XP4
Symptoms
- Belts glaze or break early
- Belt smell after slow work or towing
- Slips on take-off, especially loaded
Why it happens
The PVT belt rubs against the spinning drive clutch at idle and slow speed, building heat. Heavy loads in high range, high idle, and dirty clutches make it worse.
How to fix it
- Use low range for loads, towing and anything under walking speed.
- Check idle speed against the manual.
- Clean the clutches and inspect belt width and condition.
- Break in a new belt as the manual describes, and check belt deflection.
Tools and parts
- Drive belt
- Clutch puller and holder
- Brake cleaner
