Sled overheating on hard-packed trails: add ice scratchers
Teilen
Applies to: Yamaha Sidewinder, SR Viper and most modern sleds
Symptoms
- Overheat warning on icy or hard-packed trails
- Fine in fresh snow, hot on groomed or low-snow trails
- Power drops after a long run
Why it happens
Sleds cool through heat exchangers in the tunnel that need snow thrown on them. With little loose snow, they can't shed heat. Low coolant or trapped air makes it worse.
How to fix it
- Fit ice scratchers and drop them on hard trails.
- Ride in the loose snow at the trail edge where you can.
- Check coolant level and bleed air per the manual.
- Check the heat exchangers for damage or debris.
Tools and parts
- Ice scratchers
