Suzuki King Quad won't idle: clogged carb pilot jet

Applies to: Suzuki King Quad 300 and other carbureted Suzuki ATVs

Symptoms

  • Only runs with the choke on
  • Dies at idle, bogs off the line
  • Sat for a season before the problem started

Why it happens

Old fuel leaves varnish in the carb, and the tiny pilot jet that feeds idle clogs first.

How to fix it

  1. Drain old fuel from the tank and float bowl.
  2. Remove the carb and take out the pilot and main jets.
  3. Clean the jets and passages with carb cleaner and a fine wire, then blow them out.
  4. Reassemble, set the float height and pilot screw to the manual spec.

Tools and parts

  • Carb cleaner
  • Fine wire or jet cleaning set
  • Carb rebuild kit
