Diesel tractor won't restart after running out of fuel
Teilen
Applies to: Diesel compact and utility tractors (Kubota, John Deere, New Holland, Massey Ferguson), All years
Symptoms
- Ran out of fuel; refilled but won't start
- Cranks with no smoke
- Starts, then dies
Why it happens
Air in the fuel system. Diesel injection pumps can't push air, so the system must be bled.
How to fix it
- Fill the tank.
- Open the bleed screw on the fuel filter and prime until bubble-free fuel flows.
- Bleed at the injection pump if your model has a screw there.
- Crack injector line nuts and crank until fuel spits, then tighten.
- Many newer tractors self-bleed with key-on: check the manual.
Tools and parts
- Wrenches
- Rags
- Diesel fuel
