Yamaha 4WD won't engage: On-Command motor and wiring
Teilen
Applies to: Yamaha Viking, Wolverine, Rhino, Grizzly and Kodiak with On-Command 4WD
Symptoms
- 4WD light comes on but front wheels don't drive
- Diff lock won't engage
- Works intermittently, often after washing or water crossings
Why it happens
The front diff gear motor or its connector corrodes, or a switch or wire fails. Sometimes the shift fork just needs the machine rolled slightly to line up.
How to fix it
- Roll the machine a few feet after selecting 4WD.
- Check the fuse and the connector at the front diff motor for water and corrosion.
- Test voltage to the motor while switching 4WD on and off.
- Replace the gear motor or switch if voltage is good but nothing moves.
Tools and parts
- Multimeter
- Dielectric grease
- Gear motor or switch
