Arctic Cat Wildcat burning belts: clutch and belt care

Applies to: Arctic Cat Wildcat, Wildcat Trail, Sport, X and XX

Symptoms

  • Belt glazes, frays or breaks early
  • Slips on take-off or in deep mud
  • Burning smell from the clutch cover

Why it happens

Heat builds when the belt slips at low speed under load. Dirty sheaves, a worn belt, water in the case or high range in hard going all make it worse.

How to fix it

  1. Use low range for mud, climbing and slow work.
  2. Drain any water from the clutch case.
  3. Clean the sheaves and measure belt width against spec.
  4. Check clutch alignment and belt deflection per the manual.

Tools and parts
