Kawasaki Brute Force overheating: radiator, fan and coolant

Applies to: Kawasaki Brute Force 650 and 750

Symptoms

  • Temperature light on during slow trail riding
  • Fan doesn't seem to run
  • Coolant pushed out of the overflow

Why it happens

The radiator sits low and packs with mud. A failed fan fuse, switch or motor, or air trapped in the system, adds to it at low speed where there's little airflow.

How to fix it

  1. Wash the radiator from the back side out until you can see light through it.
  2. Check the fan fuse, then test the fan motor directly with battery power.
  3. Test the fan switch per the manual's temperature spec.
  4. Refill coolant and bleed air per the manual.
