Electric forklift won't move: seat switch, battery and contactor

Applies to: Caterpillar EP40-EP55 and other electric forklifts

Symptoms

  • Power on but no drive
  • Fault code on the display
  • Lift works but travel doesn't

Why it happens

Travel is locked out unless the seat switch, direction lever and brake signals are right. A low or failed battery cell, a pitted line contactor or a controller fault also stop drive.

How to fix it

  1. Read the fault code and look it up in the manual.
  2. Check battery state of charge and connector condition.
  3. Test the seat switch and direction switch.
  4. Check the main contactor tips and coil.
