Compact excavator controls dead: hydraulic lockout lever

Applies to: Bobcat E19, E35, 335 and other compact excavators

Symptoms

  • Engine runs but nothing moves
  • Tracks and boom won't respond
  • Works for a moment then stops

Why it happens

The left console or lockout lever cuts pilot pressure when raised. A faulty lockout switch or solenoid, or low pilot pressure, leaves all controls dead.

How to fix it

  1. Lower the console or lockout lever fully.
  2. Check the lockout switch and solenoid for power.
  3. Check hydraulic fluid level and the pilot filter.
  4. Test pilot pressure per the manual.

Tools and parts

  • Multimeter
  • Pilot filter
  • Pressure gauge
