Kawasaki Teryx overheating: fan relay and temperature switch

Applies to: Kawasaki Teryx 750 and Teryx4

Symptoms

  • Overheat light on slow trails
  • Fan never runs, or runs only sometimes
  • Coolant pushed into the overflow

Why it happens

The fan relay, fan temperature switch or their wiring fails, so the fan doesn't switch on. A mud-packed radiator makes it worse.

How to fix it

  1. Clean the radiator.
  2. Check the fan fuse, then jump the fan directly from the battery to test it.
  3. Test the fan relay and temperature switch per the manual.
  4. Inspect the fan wiring and connectors for corrosion or rub-through.

Tools and parts

  • Multimeter
  • Fan relay or temperature switch
  • Coolant
