Can-Am Maverick overheating at idle: radiator and fan

Applies to: Can-Am Maverick, Maverick X3 and Maverick Sport/Trail

Symptoms

  • Temperature climbs when idling or crawling
  • Overheat warning and limp mode
  • Fan doesn't kick on, or runs weakly

Why it happens

Mud and debris pack the radiator, and a weak or failed fan, fan fuse or relay leaves no airflow at low speed. Air trapped after coolant work adds to it.

How to fix it

  1. Wash the radiator from the back side out.
  2. Check the fan fuse and relay, then power the fan directly to test it.
  3. Check coolant level cold and bleed air per the manual.
  4. Check the temperature sensor if the fan never switches on.

Tools and parts

  • Garden hose
  • Multimeter
  • Coolant
