Honda TRX leaking oil at the differential seals

Applies to: Rancher, Foreman, Rubicon (Honda), All years

Symptoms

  • Oil on the inside of a wheel or axle
  • Milky diff oil after water crossings
  • Clunking from the front end

Why it happens

Mud and water wear the axle and pinion seals, and a blocked vent hose pushes oil out past them.

How to fix it

  1. Find the leak and check the diff vent hose is clear.
  2. Drain the diff and check for water (milky oil).
  3. Remove the axle and replace the seal.
  4. Refill with the oil type and amount the manual specifies.
