Light tower lamps won't light: breakers, ballasts and generator

Applies to: Genie RL-4 and other towable light towers

Symptoms

  • Engine runs but some or all lamps stay dark
  • Lamps flicker or cycle on and off
  • Breaker trips

Why it happens

Tripped breakers, a failed ballast or bulb, loose mast wiring, or low generator output.

How to fix it

  1. Reset breakers and note which circuit trips.
  2. Check generator output voltage.
  3. Swap a working lamp's bulb into the dead fixture to isolate bulb vs ballast.
  4. Inspect the mast coil cord and connectors for damage.

Tools and parts

  • Multimeter
  • Bulbs or ballast
