Sled track ratcheting on hard pulls: track tension
Share
Applies to: Ski-Doo Summit, MXZ and all modern sleds
Symptoms
- Loud bang or clatter when you hammer the throttle
- Track lugs worn or chunked at the drivers
- Track runs to one side
Why it happens
A loose track lets the drive sprockets skip over the lugs (ratcheting). Misalignment wears one side of the slides and track.
How to fix it
- Lift the rear and measure track deflection with the manual's weight and spot.
- Adjust both rear idler bolts evenly to set tension.
- Run the track slowly and check alignment; adjust one side to center it.
- Inspect slides (hyfax) and drivers for wear.
Tools and parts
- Track tension gauge or scale
- Wrenches
- Slides if worn
