Vespa PX hard to shift or clutch drags: cable adjustment
Share
Applies to: Vespa PX 125 and 150 (twist-grip gear change)
Symptoms
- Hard to find gears or neutral
- Grinds into first, creeps with clutch pulled
- Gear marks on the grip don't line up
Why it happens
The PX shifts through two cables from the left grip and uses a cable clutch. Stretched or poorly adjusted cables leave gears half-engaged and the clutch dragging.
How to fix it
- Set the gear selector cables so neutral lines up with the grip mark, per the manual.
- Adjust clutch free play at the lever.
- Lube or replace stiff cables.
- Check gearbox oil level.
Tools and parts
- Gear and clutch cables
- Gearbox oil
- Wrenches
