Yamaha Raptor 700 stalls when you stop: idle and throttle body

Applies to: Yamaha Raptor 700 / 700R (EFI)

Symptoms

  • Dies when you let off the throttle or come to a stop
  • Worse when hot
  • Hunts or surges at idle

Why it happens

Idle speed set too low, a dirty throttle body, or a sticking idle system lets the engine stall when the throttle snaps shut. Air leaks at the intake boot do the same.

How to fix it

  1. Check and set idle speed to the manual spec with the engine warm.
  2. Clean the throttle body bore and plate.
  3. Inspect the intake boot and clamps for cracks or leaks.
  4. Check for fault codes and reset the throttle position sensor per the manual.

Tools and parts

  • Throttle body cleaner
  • Tachometer
  • Intake boot if cracked
